Trying to revive my new bike
« on: October 29, 2012, 03:10:18 AM »
my 76 xs500 seemed to have a seized motor, but i think it might be something else.  kick starter wouldn't move and there is no battery or plug wires.  after soaking pistons for 4 days with Seafoam, i tried rocking bike in 5th gear to turn crank.  as i rocked i worked the clutch lever in and out, suddenly the bike moved when i pulled the clutch in.  the kick start now works with the clutch in.  does that mean the engine is turning over?  was the clutch frozen?  should the kick start work without the clutch?

I am a newbie bike owner with above average mechanical skills, but this bike is starting to scare me.

Just got the engine freed up.  Next to get everything together for a test fire.   seems to turn over very easily.  Fingers crossed.

Seafoam and patience!
