Xs500b Fuel Tank fill diameter
« on: January 30, 2015, 05:02:46 PM »
Good Morning,  As I said in my introduction this morning I picked up a 1975 in boxed form without wheels.  Well going on further the tank has been terribly lined with what appears to be Kreem? Krelm?  the crappy one.  I am at work right now (away on shift) and the machinist has offered to make me a plug for the tank fill hole.   Does anyone have a vernier calipers to measure the id of the hole in millimeters and let me know what it is?   Further - does anyone happen to know if it is the same id as a RD350 a/b - first generation aircooled?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi. To your question about the tank cap opening this is one of those situations where more information about your bike would be helpful. That's because if you have an 1975 "XS500B" then yes, the RD250/350 opening and cap is the same. If your bike is a 1976 or later "XS500" then the cap is different and I want to say that the opening is a bit smaller too.

Home now and measured the tank on my '76 XS500C. The opening is 40mm and the sealing surface is 50mm.

Put up the frame number and we'll get your bike in the registry.
