Exhaust tubing size
« on: May 25, 2015, 03:58:55 AM »
Hello guys,

I have a 78 xs500 engine for my project with the round exhaust ports, i saw a kit to build your own exhaust for a xs650, just wondering if the exhaust size from the 500 is the same, i know i probably have to modify the flange for them to bolt up, but if the OD is the same it should work, heres the kit:

http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-parts-tcbros-universal-xs650-exhaust-kit-109-0004.html

This are the specs:

Color/Finish: Raw Steel
Pipe Dimensions: 1.5" OD Tubing
Flange Dimensions: ID = 38 mm / OD before collar = 48 mm / OD at Collar = 44 mm / Flange Height = 36 mm / Collar; Stud to Stud = 70 mm / Collar ID = 44 mm

Kit Includes:

2 Flanges and Collars
2 Mandrel Bent 90 Degree Pieces
2 Mandrel Bent 180 Degree Pieces
2 Straight Length Pieces

Also, are myfflers really necessary? I was thinking of only using 2 short baffles like these ones for the backpreassure issue:

Yes if you want to ride with us. Put mufflers on it and be a good citizen.

Well noise for me is not an issue, i just dont know performance wise if the engine need the backpreassure to workand i can get away with the baffle tube inserts or if running open pipes would affect anything

Does anyone knows if 1.5 tubing would work?
