So i'm brand new to this whole restoring a bike thing.  Bought this 74 this summer, which doesn't run and i'm a total novice.   looking forward to the challenge of learning something new.  and hoping for some great advice on here!

Ronin, welcome to the forum, you will certainly get "up to speed" with these guys.
Will your bike turn over, nothing seized? Looks pretty original? I've seen missing side cover (same colour) on ebay quite often.
My Tx is "Bird Blue" like yours!

Its not seized but it certainly will not start.  Pretty sure the clown that I bought it from didn't treat the fuel and the carbs are gunked up.  no negative lead ground wire from the battery (completely gone).  Looks like he had tried to ground it to the cylinder head as there was a wire looped around one of the allen bolts but it was broken off.  bike is kind of a mess but it should be a fun project

It will be fun..
Check the fuel cocks they gum up pretty early.
Check underneath tank for rust ... they rust thru quickly .
Yeah! Then those carbs!
If you can get it going before complete overhaul, this is always a plus.

Great looking bike. I have a XS500. But I like the body style on the XT better. Good luck. Mojo
