Hanging idle
« on: April 08, 2018, 07:06:17 AM »
My newly rebuilt TX with Mikuni B38's has a hanging idle and then stalling issue. #135 main's stock Pilots, shimmed needle with pods and free flow exhaust.  Great throttle response revs nicely.  Come to a stop and stalls.  Restart adjust idle speed sounds good rev it and the idle hangs at 3,000 rpm and settled down to 1200 and dies.

What's the fix?

1. Check vacuum sync of carbs and check for air leaks.
2. Check slide movement for smooth operation. Check for diaphragm leaks by raising the slide and covering the vent in the carb bellmouth with your finger. The slide should stay up or fall very slowly.
3. Check governor operation with a timing light to make sure it retards at idle.
4. Check valve clearance and set to the loose side of spec.

PS. Pods on CV carbs with aftermarket exhaust is asking for trouble so see if the symptom goes away if you just run the carbs without the pods on them.
