mono shock swing arm

Hi could anyone tell me if the monoshock swingarm from a rd350 fit the tx500?

I assume you are thinking about the RD350LC that was sold in Canada as the RD we had in the States was always twin shock. That arm might fit the 500 frame but due to the length of the top frame tube I think you would probably need a shorter shock than the one on the RD which is already quite short. One of the problems my friends in testing at Yamaha had with the twin cam XS400 which used the same shock as the RDLC was the limited anount of travel at the rear. A shorter shock would likely make that situation worse. It would also interfere with the airbox on the 500. So, it can probably be done but I doubt that the benefit would justify the effort and cost. You might not be happy with the result.

Spend the money on some bronze swingarm bushings and a pair of nice gas shocks and I think you will be money ahead and handling just as good as a monoshock setup.
