Oil leak
« on: October 03, 2019, 06:35:15 AM »
Hi guys put some fresh oil in my xs500c the other day and have noticed a leak coming out the bottom of the left crankcase cover. Itís not either of the two 17mm nuts there more coming from the bottom just near where the cover is fixed with the Allen bolt. Allen bolt is done up
Pretty tight.

Any ideas? Could it be as simple as the gasket for the cover? Will a whole heap of oil come out if I remove the cover?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, it's probably the gasket and yes, oil will come out if you remove the cover without draining the oil. Will it all come out? I'm not sure.

I suppose you could try leaning the bike to the right and see if that works.

Did you by chance change the oil filter of late? Thinking it could be a new filter not sealing!

Correction... was viewing your photo upside down.. It won't be filter!

I did indeed change the oil filter recently but no oil escaping there. Think it will most likely be the gasket. Will have to drain oil and take a looksee.

Anyone know who supplies the gaskets?
