Lower Crankcase Cracked & Leaking Oil
« on: January 26, 2020, 09:22:11 PM »
Just found out my 74 tx500 has a crack in the lower crankcase that was hidden by a previous owners JB weld. Anyone ever deal with a crack?

Curious how difficult it will be to get a replacement if the crack can't be welded.

Thanks for the help.

You'll need a complete set of cases if the crack can't be welded as the top and bottom are line bored together.

How likely is it that I would be able to find replacements for these?

Jump on eBay and you can find out. Search for TX500 and XS500 crankcases.

I have a spare engine , a 76 I believe . It has been picked over quite a bit , but has not had the cases split . Sounds like just what you need . I live about one and a half hours outside of Reno , NV , so driving from your location might be cheaper than shipping costs .
I'm sure I can give you a good price , just don't know what the value of the unit is . Any thoughts ? Let me know .
