New to me '76 XS500
« on: March 29, 2013, 01:20:16 PM »
In October I bought a hacked up '76 XS500.

It ran at the time, but found some really bad things:
the rear axle nut was held on by a pop-rivet instead of a cotter pin; the front pegs were loose; the exhaust studs were loose - almost falling off.

Have stripped it ALL down. wheels, forks, bars, wiring harness and motor all pulled out. Waiting to blast and paint frame. carbs have been cleaned, tops have been blasted to a nice finish, all bolts on carb ass'y have been 'parkerized'. Painted rear swing-arm, speedo/tach ass'y, rebuilt master cylinders. There is some kind of Fram oil filter in there. Have not pulled it yet.

Can't wait to ride her again.
