XS500B Fuel Cap and Taps
« on: July 16, 2013, 10:44:08 AM »
Hi,

I'm struggling to work out where to get a fuel cap and pair of taps for the XS500B.
The cap is a different design to the later XS, with the key going in horizontally, rather than vertically - is it common with anything else?
The taps don't seem to be readily available?

Dave

Also - carburettors - has anyone put a pair of RGV250 Mikuni's (I think they're 34mm), on their bike.
I'm fairly sure I've a pair sat in my garage, and thought they might be interesting...
I've seen posts mentioning VM32's, but not sure what you have to do to get it all together?

Fuel Taps are pretty easy- shared with the XS1-X650D so plenty around?  The XS650 guys are pretty well catered for, so MikesXS if you haven't already found it is a treasure trove of electrical, brake and other parts common to both bikes.  Fuel Taps Here and they also do the Service Kits if you want to keep the original parts.  If you want to stay in Europe, then CMSNL also carry both left and right as Yamaha NOS but starting to get pricey..

Fuel Cap- are you missing the whole assembly as it's made up of several parts?  This time you need to turn to RD250/RD350 up to the "B" models, also the TX750 but that scarcely makes them more available....

Carbs I'll hold off as others are more qualified to comment!

Postage is very reasonable- USPS must be subsidised heavily.  Unfortunately nothing seems to get through our end without ParcelForce hijacking it and charging you VAT if it's over 15, customs duty if it's over 135 and an outrageous "handling" fee of 8

For those reasons I source in the UK and Europe first if I can, then look elsewhere....

Okay thanks, may keep looking round in Europe for my bits and pieces then.
I've just managed to get a new alloy front wheel rim, so will find a rear to match and then get those laced onto my hubs.
